Merry Christmas

While celebrating Christmas, Deer and I also celebrated our 5-year "meeting" anniversary. We met on 12/23 five years ago. Over the course of the years, we both changed a lot, but these changes only enhanced our relationship for better and stronger. The restaurant we went for our celebration dinner, which in no doubt, is Kaz Bistro, our long-time favorite restaurant. However, I have recently discovered  my favorite Spanish Tapa place in DC Georgetown, Bodega. Compared to La Tasca and Jaleo, which we went quiet often, Bodega was very different. The restaurant is small with a lot of interesting decrorations. I was eating while facing a sheep head on the wall the entire time. I ordered a sangria with white wine because I've never had white sangria before - and it was a big mistake. Mental note: always red sangria. I highly recommend the clam soup and meet balls. My favorite of all was the clam. I was so impressed with the rich garlic favor mixed within the buttery and cream soup.

P.S. My phone doesn't take the best pictures (even the best tasting food look a little disgusting in the pictures). I need to remember to bring the camera with me in the future.

Lebanese :)

I was never a big fan of Lebanese food because I don't eat lamb. I'm a food addict, but there are quiet few things I don't eat, such as lamb, onions, scallions.... However, after I went to Me Jana, a Lebanese restaurant located in Arlington, VA, I think I'm hooked. I like everything we ordered that night, because we specifically didn't order lamb. The fried eggplants topped with yogurt were so different from any types of food I had before. I like the crispy-outside-and-soft-inside taste of the eggplants and the yogurt on the top to adds some freshness to the oily fried veggies. I absolutely loved the sautéed shrimp with a garlic flavor and grilled pita bread stuffed with beef. However, I wish the calamari was less oily. Last but not least, I packed all the white bread home (the free starter.haha) - I really like how it's made into a football shape and is completely hollow inside and a little crispy outside.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. I'm not a big fan of turkey, so I didn't eat any. We went to Seven Seas, a local Chinese seafood restaurant. It's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the DC area. I'd recommend it to everyone who's here in DC or visiting DC. Some dishes we ordered were totally Americanized, such as mango beef, a dish consists of stir fried beef and sweet mango. However, most of the dishes were amazingly good, such as Peking Duck and Paper-pot Tofu. I specially liked the Paper-pot Tofu. It is tofu cooked with seafood, severed on a paper pot with hot stove on the bottom. It has this special smoky flavor, which makes is interesting and unique.

I had a crave for Thai food.

We had a late brunch at a Thai restaurant called Bangkok Joe's. Did the name "Joe"  suddenly become more popular due to "Joe the Plumber" which made its first appearance in 2008 presidential campaign? Disregarding the name, the food there was surprising good and unique. I have to admit that this is an Americanized Thai restaurant, so you probably won't find their main entrees any more interesting than those at other Thai restaurants. However, their apetizers were very well made. I'd highly recommend their lobster rolls - which is made of thin slices of lettuce and lobster with fish eggs as toppings wrapped with a piece of thin rice paper. Very tasty.

Another Thai restaurant I really liked was the one called Aqua in Philly. During our last visit to Philly, we randomly walked in this restaurant, and I just fell in love of their food. I really liked the shrimp rolls wrapped with bacons and the Indian bread. They were served with peanut source and curry chicken soup, which were just perfect combinations.

A couple months ago, I forced deer to drive to Philly with me. On our way there, we kept on talking about how many philly cheesesteak sandwiches we'd eat and how we should pack some home. Never did I know, I ended craving for a bowl of Pho, some chill sake and a bowl of ice cream - sometimes I crave for things that usually require visiting multiple restaurants. Deer is not a big fan of Pho, but to satisfy my urge, he accompanied and watched me finished a big bowl of it. While walking to search for a place with sake, we realized that we were in philly and should give the famous Morimoto a try.

We walked in the restaurant with jeans and flip-flops while everyone there was totally dressed up. The restaurant was very trendy. I could tell a lot of couples were on their first date by observing the way they talked, the way the girls smiled, the way the guys sat with their back straight. In fact, I didn't feel out of place at all with my under-dressed outfit. However, I did get a few of "what the heck is she wearing" stares. Their sushi were just ordinary, nothing amazing that you won't see in other Japanese restaurant. In fact, you might find the sushi at Kaz Bistro in DC better. However, the fresh eel Nigiri-zushi was phenomenal. I also enjoyed watching our waitor turning soy milk into tofu in front of us. Meanwhile, I'd highly recommend their lobster legs and black sesame ice cream. Their sake was not that impressing. I'd say I had better in NYC.
